"Freedom" is the name given to a courageous Horse who inspired Equine lovers around the World when he escaped from an annual, relatively dangerous roundup conducted by the often corrupt BLM. Every year  North American Horses and Burros are rounded up from their native homes (they were once thought to be invasive species) and sold to kind people, mean people, hungry people, or re-released if they're lucky. Sadly, 10% die while held captive. Most of the time, it's unnessecarily traumatic, harmful, unhealthy, reproductively damaging, and doesn't seem to be solving the underlying problems the BLM sites for their removal in the first place, such as, overusing the habitat in which they and other species thrive (the simple solution of leaving predators within our ecosystems would prevent this). All problems we're facing have solutions, some aren't ideal, but they would save innocent lives and leave us with something to be proud of.

There is also immense competition for resources like water, oil, and habitat within the hundreds of thousands of acres these Horses reside; and the Horses often compete with Human-raised Cattle, Sheep, and other income-generating grazers (which is also subsidized by tax dollars, sometimes even fetching $700,000 dollars for one contractor - pdf just to remove the Horses from the land). There is gross corruption, secrecey, and hidden agendas throughout this roundup scene, it is unconcientious and unfathomable how cruel and callouse these people seem to be, some even watching as Horses with broken necks stagger to the ground, suffering and convulsing while they look blankly at horrible and intense suffering.

These Horses are iconic symbols of freedom and exploration, we have them on our walls, coins, and state flags. They are irreplaceable and our acknowledgement of this is paramount. We need to show our support for jobs related to the tourism industry (not just the ranching industry) by visiting these wild places. We can help those without voices by spreading the word, watching documentaries like "Cloud: Wild Stallion of the Rockies", and we can make our own voices known by telling our Government directly (the last link is a GREAT letter written during last years roundup, with the email address for the Whitehouse).

Let's talk about it! Make it public! Facebook it. Twitter it, whatever you have to do! Most changes that have occured within the Government were brought about by large-scale grassroot movements. We can do it, we can point our country to a preservationists point of view with creative actions and impacting words.

Our hearts go out to all the Animals everywhere, who cannot get beyond those bars, chains, or fences, and to those who die trying. Long live Freedom; for every living thing.

Here Freedom is photographed as he pauses to look back at his family after the traumatizing ordeal within the roundup facility. There is mixed review as to his whereabouts now.
